Founded in the 8th century by the Greeks, it was conquered by the Romans, whose presence is still noted in the abundant ruins. It was destroyed by several volcanic eruptions. Catania Cathedral

It is a beautiful church dedicated to St. Agatha, patron saint of Catania, located in the main square of the city. It was built on the ruins of the Roman baths but was destroyed and rebuilt several times after the earthquakes.

Roman Amphitheatre of Catania

The Amphitheatre was probably built in the 2nd century AD. It used to be a great monument, second in size only to the Colosseum. Today only a small part of the structure is visible.

Ursino Castle

It is a castle built in the 13th century as one of the royal castle of Frederick II, King of Sicily. Today it is open to the public as a museum.
