Civitavecchia (literally “old city”) was founded around 107 A.D over a pre-existing Etruscan village. Situated on the Tyrrhenian sea, the port is one of the most important in Italy and the main port for Rome and central Italy. The city, of about 53,000 inhabitants, and a bi-millenary History is a favorite spot for tourists who wish to go on an excursion to Rome and Vatican sights fresh out of their cruise ship.
