Located on the Gulf of Genoa in the Ligurian Sea, Genoa has been one of the most important harbours on the Mediterranean and also the birthplace of the famed explorer Christopher Columbus. Genoa is now rich in art, music and cuisine, and offers many interesting places to visit. The centre of Genoa, in fact, is famous for its maze of squares and narrow alleys called “caruggi”. The atmosphere is so peculiar that you can’t miss it! A part of the old town was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List, for its Le Strade Nuove which host the wonderful Palazzi dei Rolli, a series of noble buildings built between the 16th and the 18th century.
