It is one of the most ancient and famous castles of Naples. According to the tradition, this seaside structure takes its name from the Latin poet Virgil who would have put a magical egg into the foundations.
This massive castle was erected in 1279 in a strategic position, therefore it was not only a royal residence but also a fortress. In the past it gave ospitality to many artists such as Giotto, Petrarch and Boccaccio.
Built in the 17th century, it was one of the four residence used by the Bourbon kings from 1734 until 1860. Today the first floor is a museum and it houses the National Library.
Seiano Grotto is a tunnel excavated on the Posillipo hill in the Roman era leading to an interesting and evocative area, the Archaeological-Environmental park of Pausilypon.
