Pompeii is one of the most important archaeological sites in the world, designed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Founded in the 8th century BC, it was completely destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. The lava covered the land surrounding it, including the famous Herculaneum, and killed people and animals while running away or in their houses. The ashes buried any temples, theatres, shops and luxurious villas of this prosperous Roman town. Your guided tour of Pompeii will stroll with you through the ruins including the Stabian Baths, the Forum, the House of the Tragic Poet, the House of Faun, and the brothel decorated with erotic scenes.
It is a small house richly decorated with large frescoes depicting scenes from Greek mythology and mosaic floors, the most famous of which is the one with the inscription “Cave canem”, Latin for “beware of the dog”.
Built in 180 BC, the House of the Faun was the largest and most decorated aristocrat house of Pompeii. It was named after a bronze statue of a dancing Faun situated in the atrium.
The Stabian Baths, built at the end of the 2nd century, is one of the most interesting and well preserved structures in Pompeii. Reserved for some of the richest families of the time, the interior is decorated of frescoes, statues and carvings.
