The Regio Museo delle Antichità Egizie was formally founded in 1824 with the acquisition by King Carlo Felice of a large collection. This was assembled by Bernardino Drovetti, of Piedmontese origin. Champollion arrived in Turin as the Drovetti Collection was being unpacked, and within a few months of intense activity and produced a catalogue raisonné of the collections. It was Champollion who famously wrote, “The road to Memphis and Thebes passes through Turin.”

For safety reasons, you cannot enter the museum with bags and luggage over 40 x 30 x 15 cm of size (15.74 x 11.82 x 5.90 inches). You can leave your backpacks and other prohibited items cloakroom.
If you have luggage, there is a room available and the charge is 1 Euro.
Photographs are allowed, but strictly without flash. Dipending on the group, the tour can take place in a single language or in two languages.
