  • Lake Iseo Cruise
  • Discover Montisola
  • Tour of the Upper Town of Bergamo (Ancient Bergamo Vecchia)

Description

Lake Iseo is the fourth largest Lombardy lake, an hidden gem, a beautiful natural charming and semi-unknown place that has the largest inhabited island of European lakes, Montisola: a mountain in the middle of the lake, considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy full of colorful boats, narrow alleys, steep stairways, stone villages.

A comfortable bus will take you from Milan to Iseo village, where your cruise for Monteisola will start and you will reach Peschiera Miraglio in 30 minutes. Peschiera Maraglio is a lovely harbour full of naèt, the traditional fishermen’s boats. Moreover, you can also visit the interesting Fishing Museum and learn something more about the history, the techniques and the tools used by local fishermen; locals maintained the old habits of people who live far from the mainland and the stress of the city.

This stunning location between 18 June and 3 July 2016 was the theater of the famous contemporary art project The Floating Piers created by the Bulgarian artist Christo. During these provisional projects, the visitors were able to walk on the lake surface, follow the installation that wound its way between Sulzano, Monte Isola and the island of San Paolo.

Our tour leader will lead you on a walking tour to discover this lovely setting, and then you will have free time for lunch and enjoy local dishes of northern Italian cuisine. After lunch you will cruise back to Iseo (30 minutes) in order to catch our bus and go to discover the beautiful city of Bergamo.

The historic center of the Upper Town is a pedestrian area and together we can see the main attractions on an easy 2-hour walking tour.

The must-see monuments are surely the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, a magnificent Romanesque building, chiseled by centuries of history, the Cappella Colleoni, a funeral monument to one of the most important fifteenth-century Generals and of course Piazza Vecchia, the elegant open-air showpiece of the city that houses the ancient Palazzo della Ragione.

Besides these jewels you will discover countless other precious gems jealously guarded within the narrow medieval streets such as the delightful music of Gaetano Donizetti’s Museum, the enchanting views from the Rocca Viscontea, the Venetian city walls included in the Unesco heritage list and the sweet-scented botanical gardens.

OPTION 2: Cruise withPrivate Taxi Boat (from Iseo to Monteisola), the private boat option will permit you to circumnavigate Montisola and admire the gem from all around. This option will be confirmed once the minimum number of participants of 10 people will be reached, otherwise you will join the cruise with Ferryboat and the difference will be refunded.
