Erected upon one of the ancient Roman gates of the city, the Castle has been a social gathering hot spot for millennia.
The current version dates back to 1450 and was built under the rule of Francesco Sforza. The Castle was also home to Leonardo da Vinci for years as Milan was one of the most advanced European capitals in terms of Engineering and Culture. Another important guest was Donato Bramante, architect of Saint Peter’s basilica in the Vatican.
The tour will take you through the inner courtyards as well as the direct surroundings of the fortress where you will get to know the life of the court and the intrigues that only this kind of places conceal. And the second part of the tour will focus on taking you inside the Castle, now turned into various museums.
Aside from the collection of Ancient Art, that will let you in on the History of the Dukedom of Milan, you will also go through the former Chapel, and different chambers. You will see Michelangelo’s final sculpture “La Pietà Rondanini” and much more.
